According to a series of news articles, Bakery El Monte Sinai Corp. has issued a recall for certain rainbow cakes that were produced with undeclared allergens.
The official recall announcement recently issued by the Food and Drug Administration has revealed that these cakes were produced with eggs, although the product’s package does not indicated the presence of the allergen. Because of this labeling issue, certain consumers with a high sensitivity to milk could experience severe allergic reactions as a result.
The recalled item comes in a Styrofoam tray that is wrapped with a plastic. The 10-ounces item has the UPC Code number 5273500209 printed on its label and a code dated 7/8/12.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, the recall was made necessary after the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food inspectors tested the products and found the presence of eggs, which was not declared in the product’s label.
Although no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported, the federal agency along the company urges consumers to return this product to the place of purchase immediately.
